The Lazy Nagpurian

Updated: Mar 29, 2023

Nagpur : Waking at 8.30 AM to reach the office at 9:00 AM is a luxury that not everyone can boast. In fact a person living in the metropolitan envies it. But for a Nagpurian, it is a daily activity which is a norm in this quiet and lazy city.

Lazy City, Lazy People

Lazy City, lazy people. If it was a saying, it would be true for Nagpur and its people.

Short distances, good enough roads to drive, abundance of local stores in every locality makes life in Nagpur very easy. A Nagpurian barely has to leave home to get everyday stuff. A short walk to the nearby main road does the trick every time. Even going to family functions, parties and hangouts is just a few minutes away.

All this seems great as it saves time of travel which people can utilise on more productive tasks. However, it also takes away the sense of urgency from a person as the perception is already a given that minimal efforts are required to be on time anywhere. For a person from cities like Mumbai, which is famed as the city that never sleeps, this is quite a lifestyle shock. For them to get to an office, school or almost anywhere on time is a struggle as they have to leave at least an hour or two in advance, battle through traffic or the crowds in the local trains and then reach their destination all battered and bruised.

Blessing in Disguise

This lack of urgency seems great at first, but when a Nagurian goes to a bigger and busier city, a Nagpurkar comes across as a lazy person. The fact is that a person from Nagpur is not used to getting ready for a life event two hours before it starts.

Although it is true that a Nagpurkars pace is more like the tortoise than a hare from a bigger city, it also has its own advantages. Calm, stability, a laid back attitude and never in rush are common traits the Nagpur city imbibes in its people. A Lazy Nagpurkar is cool and collected in the eye of the storm and is an ideal leader.

The people of Nagpur are called LAZY, and they proudly accept it. If being the calmest mind in the room with no sludge of thoughts on how to get to the next destination on time is lazy, then Nagpurians are the laziest people with a peaceful state of mind.
