Nagpur's Weather, an extreme experience

Updated: Jan 25, 2023

Nagpur may not be the most interesting place in the world, but experiencing its weather throughout the year is no less than an exciting adventure which includes suspense, fulfilment, hardships and eventually a happy ending to the year.

The Best of Nagpur

The adventure starts with the first of January of the new year. Some are battling their hangover from the previous night's party while others are all geared up to fulfil their new years resolution. Then there are those to whom the turn of new year seems but the same as the previous, and then a few who are still single, battered and down. The morning of the first of every year in Nagpur is special though. Everyone is greeted with a cool breeze grazing their skin in the morning. It energises the ones who are down while reaffirms the confidence of the already confident. January and February are two of the most pleasant months in Nagpur. Mornings are cool, afternoons are dreamy and warm enough to keep your mood alive and cool enough to prevent sweat. Nights are cosy with temperatures between 15-25 degree celsius.

Dry Summers

As March dawns upon Nagpur so does the increasing heat of the sun. The rising temperatures tip over the 30 degree celsius mark giving an indication of the harsh times to come. April brings down the heat on this green city, turning the trees brown as their leaves fall off due to the extreme heat. May makes Nagpur feel like a desert without sand. With temperatures soaring well above 45 degrees celsius, the dry and hot winds of Nagpur literally beats the life out of some.

Lazy Monsoons

The first showers of Monsoons in the second week of June give life to the lifeless. The eerie maydays of May are washed away by the light drizzles sprouting the lost greenery and the Nagpuri spirit together. Although the humidity the showers bring over June and July can be sticky and irritating and even a desert cooler cannot make it go away. August is a different story, it brings in the darkness with its dark rain filled clouds. Get ready to be sun deprived for days at a stretch. The heavy rain beats the heat out of the surface. The days feel lazy with no desire to step out.

The Calm

The festival months of September and October makes the weather festive as well. The trees are green and dance their hearts out with the chirping birds every morning. As Dussehra, Ganesh Chaturthi and eventually Diwali bring about the victory of good over evil and light over darkness, the weather heat of May and the gloominess of August are won over by the warm sunlight of September and chilly evening of October as the temperatures drop below 30 degree celsius.

Winter Ready

The weather in November and December is the coldest. As the weather scale tips below 10 degrees sometimes, snuggling with your loved ones in the warmth of their embrace truly defines the emotion of Nagpur weather and what it means to Nagpurians. It comforts, it challenges, it threatens, it kills, it revives, it irritates, it rejoices and finally it loves. Every year, this circle of climate embraces the people of Nagpur, testing their limits every now and then, while comforting them eventually.
