Relocating is difficult and the very first step while relocating is to find a place to stay. Be it a student, a corporate employee or a newly wed couple, renting a house in Nagpur can be challenging. With the main residential areas of the city such as Bajaj Nagar, Dharampeth, Civil Lines and others on the verge of saturation, most of the places are mostly on the border of the city or away from the commercial and residential areas.
The biggest challenge is to find a broker who is patient and does not call like a debt collection agent after giving a tour of a few apartments. As soon as the tour is over they expect you to be ready with the money and sign the rental agreement. The rent as per them, is always non-negotiable. It is almost impossible to find a broker who will show you apartments as per your preference and price range and let you make the decision rather than forcing their opinion on you.
Then there are the soaring rental prices of the apartments. Good luck finding an apartment for less than twenty thousand rupees per month as rent, unless it's a thirty year old building which is hanging by a thread, just like an old grandma. An affordable two bedroom apartment with rent between twelve to fifteen thousand can only be found in upcoming residential areas such as Besa and Narendra Nagar, which are away from any city centre where all the businesses are located or from any educational institutions.
For some, living like a student is the only option. Even after securing a job, they share apartments where four or more persons share the same room just to save rent so that they have enough money left to send home and buy groceries. There is no privacy for these individuals, each other's company being their only comfort, if it is good company.
Finding a place to stay in Nagpur is difficult indeed, especially if it is a place where you plan to stay for an year or more. The tiger city accommodates all though, if they are calm, patient and ready for a change, just like the city.
